Seventh Sunday of Saint Luke.
His Eminence Metropolitan Ephraim and His Grace Bishop Demetrius served Matins and the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy in the morning. Metropolitan Ephraim preached the sermon. The Hierarchs were assisted by Protopresbyter Christos Constantinou, Archpriests Rodion Laskowski, Seraphim Johnson, Peter Farnsworth, Father Nicodemos Gayle, Hieromonks Basil and Chrysostom, Archdeacon Andrew, Protodeacon Christos Patitsas, Deacon Jacob Wojcik, and Deacon David Ruffner.
After a Festive Meal, Protodeacon Christos Patitsas led the parishioners, the many visitors and well wishers on a tour of the newly frescoed Church and Baptistry. Father Christos also delivered an outstanding talk on the worship of the Orthodox Church which was complete with details taken from the Church building itself, rich in its depth of meaning and, from the questions that were asked of Father Christos, made a very good impression on the visitors.
The services both on Saturday and on Sunday were very well attended. People travelled from afar to reach the Church. A bus full of the faithful travelled from Boston. The Hierarchs received fervent good wishes from many, many people. Everybody was enthusiastic and deeply moved.
We should not be surprised by this response. Our Orthodox icons are, in themselves, a living witness to our Christ and to our Panagia. Recent icon exhibits in this country both in New York City and in Los Angeles have drawn crowds that the museum directors never thought could be possible.
The crowds thronged to see Jesus Christ only 40 generations ago to the extent that “there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people insomuch that they trode one upon another” (Lk. 12:1). Is not our Christ in His holy Icon? Does He not still draw the world to Him? The good wishes and the enthusiasm that arose from the people at Pillars of Orthodoxy just a few days ago is our participation in the way that our Christ still works in His Orthodoxy today. When the flock gladly throngs around the good Shepherd, it is easy to see how others will be drawn to Him too.
Thanks be to the Lord Christ for our Faithful Hierarchs all of whom continue to follow the Lord's explicit command to teach all nations “to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of time. Amen” (Mat. 28:20).
